Anxiety Doesn’t Have to Stop You

Summary

  • I used to be scared that everyone in my company would quit or revolt against me.
  • I also feared failing, which is a normal thought.
  • Now, I still have those fears, but I know they're not always true.
  • Experience helps me see that those fears rarely come true.
  • For those with less experience, it's tougher because they lack evidence to disprove their fears.
  • The more experienced you are, the more you see that your fears usually don't happen.

How To Take Action

Dealing with Fear and Uncertainty in Your Business

I would suggest implementing a few simple strategies to manage fear and build confidence. Let’s start with low-cost and high-value actions that are easy to put into practice.

  1. Acknowledge Your Fears: It's important to first recognize that feeling scared about failure or your team rebelling is normal. Write down these fears. Putting them on paper makes them seem less daunting.

  2. Build Evidence: Each time you face a fear and it doesn’t come true, jot it down. Create a "Wins" journal where you record examples of situations where your fears didn't materialize. Over time, this will give you tangible proof that your fears are often unfounded.

  3. Small Wins: Set small, achievable goals each week. When you accomplish them, you accumulate evidence of success. This builds your confidence and reduces the impact of your fears.

  1. Open Communication: Regularly talk to your team. Honest conversations can prevent misunderstandings and reduce the chance of the revolt you fear. It also builds trust and cooperation.

  2. Mentorship and Support: Connect with more experienced entrepreneurs. They can share their stories of overcoming fears and provide advice. Online forums, local business meetups, or social media groups are great places to find mentors.

  3. Reflect and Adjust: At the end of each week, reflect on what went well and what didn’t, and adjust your plans accordingly. This helps you stay proactive and reduces anxiety about the unknown.

By taking these steps, you can gradually build a reservoir of positive experiences that will help you manage and eventually reduce your fears, making it easier to focus on growing and improving your business.

I was scared every single person was going to quit I was scared that the whole company was going to revolt against me because it felt like at times they were and I was scared that I was going to fail because that's possible those thoughts are normal I think now I just expect them that's the only difference it's not that I don't have those thoughts anymore it's that I just don't think that they're necessarily true I don't think that they're substantiated thoughts I've had these thoughts before seven other times they never came true right and so like what's the likel of they're going to happen now it's much lower everybody has those thoughts what experience does is it gives you more opportunities to prove to yourself those thoughts aren't true so for inexperienced people I think that it is harder to manage those thoughts because we have less evidence that proves that those thoughts are not true whereas when you're more experienced you just have more evidence to point to the fact that these thoughts don't often actually happen
