Back When We Broke Up…

Summary

  • I approached my partner to discuss if we should break up because I felt overwhelmed and had no capacity for anything else.
  • When asked directly if they wanted me to leave, the answer was yes, which was due to feeling overwhelmed rather than wanting to end things.
  • During our time apart, I had less guilt about not meeting expectations and used the time to focus on self-improvement with a coach for 90 minutes every day.
  • My coach helped me track progress across different areas, showing I was healthier, worked out more, and made more money.
  • When my partner returned, I shared these insights, realizing that being with them made me a better person overall.
  • I expressed a desire to be with my partner because I saw the positive impact they had on my life.

How To Take Action

I would suggest implementing the idea of taking a step back when feeling overwhelmed. If you're an entrepreneur or someone pursuing personal growth, it's important to recognize when you're taking on too much. Give yourself permission to focus on what truly matters by prioritizing tasks that align with your values and goals.

A good way of doing this is by setting aside dedicated time each day for self-improvement, like I did. You don’t need a long session — even 20 to 30 minutes a day can make a difference. This could be exercise, meditation, or any activity that helps you feel healthier and more focused.

Consider tracking your progress in different areas of your life. This could be as simple as keeping a journal or using a free app. Seeing changes can help boost motivation and provide insight into what's working for you.

When you notice positive changes, reflect on the connections between them and your circumstances. For example, identify which relationships or activities help you grow and make you a better person. Acknowledge their impact on you and express appreciation to those involved. This practice not only boosts gratitude but also strengthens bonds with people who support your growth.

Lastly, share your progress and feelings with those close to you. Open communication can lead to deeper understanding and collaboration, making it easier to continue growing together.
