How To Take Action
I would suggest implementing flexibility in your identity to grow the most. Stick to your core values and beliefs but stay open to changing how you act. For example, if being organized isn't your strength, remember that it's a skill you can learn, not just a part of who you are.
A good way of doing this is to focus on what you do, not who you are. Instead of saying, "I'm not a detailed person," try learning techniques to become more organized. Simple tools like to-do lists or calendar apps can make a big difference.
If you want to move into leadership, start acquiring the skills you need. Don't say, "That's just not who I am," because that limits your growth. Instead, take small steps towards learning new skills. Read leadership books, listen to podcasts, or take short online courses. These can be low-cost but very high in value.
Avoid being defensive about your deficits. If someone points out an area where you can improve, see it as an opportunity to grow rather than a criticism. For instance, if you're told you need to be better at time management, look for strategies to improve. Time management apps or techniques like the Pomodoro Technique can help you become more efficient.
By staying flexible and willing to learn, you can grow personally and help your team grow as well. Remember, it's all about what you do and the skills you develop, not just who you think you are.
