Defining Trauma
Summary
- Bad experiences don't have to be labeled as trauma; sometimes, they're just bad luck.
- You don't have to accept a counselor's label of trauma and carry it with you forever.
- It's a choice to let past bad experiences impact new relationships by not trusting people.
- It's possible to acknowledge something bad happened and then decide to move on without dwelling on it.

How To Take Action
I would suggest looking at bad things that happen as just part of life, not always trauma. We all have tough times, but calling it bad luck instead could help. You don't have to agree if someone says you've got trauma. If you do, it might feel like you carry a heavy bag with you everywhere, and who needs that?
A good way of doing things is to not let the past mess up your now. Like when you meet new friends or start with someone new, don't think you can't trust them just because something went wrong before. It's like having a favorite cup that broke—yes, it was sad, but you can find a new favorite cup, right?
Here's what you can do:
- When something bad happens, say, "Yep, that wasn't great, but it's done."
- Choose not to tag along the bad stuff into new times or with new people.
- If someone says, "That must be trauma," think about it. Do you want to keep that label? If not, just leave it.
- Start fresh. Like, if you had a bad day yesterday, today's a new day to make good stuff happen.
It's like if you scrape your knee. You clean it, maybe it hurts a bit, but then you go play again. It doesn't have to stop you from having fun. That's what moving on is all about. You acknowledge, "Ouch, that hurt," but then you get up and keep on going. Just like that, when life's tough, you get to decide how long it stays tough. Move on and keep building cool things in life and work.
