Do It Again But Better

Summary

  • I've realized the power of iterating on any task with the mindset of "I'll do it again but better." This approach applies to a variety of skills and tasks.
  • Learning something thoroughly, like a sales script, is just the beginning; the key is consistently improving on it with each repetition.
  • This concept doesn't just apply to sales; it's equally effective for improving business growth, product development, and user experience design.
  • The true win comes from viewing each iteration as an opportunity to develop a desirable character trait rather than just focusing on the specific task at hand.
  • Persistence and a positive attitude toward continuous improvement are the real victories, ones that are yours to keep.

How To Take Action

I would suggest implementing the "do it again but better" mindset in small steps. Start with something simple, like a daily task you already do. When you finish the task, think about how you can do it a little bit better the next time. Maybe it's faster or with more attention to detail.

If you're learning a skill like a sales script, don't just read it over once. Repeat it out loud and each time try to put more feeling into it or make it sound more natural. You can use this idea for everything – from improving customer service to designing a website.

Remember, the goal isn't just to improve the task but to grow your character too. Each time you try to be better, you are practicing persistence and getting a positive attitude. Those wins are yours forever.

Keep track of your improvements, even if they're small. Write them down or tell someone about them. This will help you see your progress and motivate you to keep going.

So, a good way of doing this is:

  1. Pick one task or skill to improve.
  2. Do it, then think about how it could be even just a little bit better.
  3. Do it again, with those improvements in mind.
  4. Write down or share the improvements.
  5. Repeat this process and look at the character growth as the real win.

This way, you're making progress without needing a lot of money or time, just by being thoughtful about what you do every day. And you’re becoming someone who is always getting better at what they do.

I'm amazed how many times in my life my response to self is great I'll do it again but better and how many times you can apply that to anything like great you learn the sales script front to back now do it again but better you can do it for asking the gro you can do it for the product you can do it for the the ux design you can do it for the email if you can keep doing that iteration without getting frustrated with it and seeing the character trait that you want to develop as the output of the activity rather than the thing that you're working on that I think is where you can get the W that no one can take away from you
