Do Men Not Respect Women at Work?
Summary
- To earn respect from both women and men, I focus on demonstrating my skills in business instead of just talking about it.
- As humans, we often point to things outside our control, but it's crucial to look internally instead.
- The first lesson I've learned as a woman in business is that sometimes lack of respect isn't about being a woman. It's about not being good enough yet. So, I strive to continuously improve myself and my skills.

How To Take Action
Actionable Steps for Personal Growth and Business Improvement
Demonstrate Your Skills
I would suggest implementing a practice where you focus on showing your skills rather than just talking about them. If you are a small business owner or an entrepreneur, create regular demonstrations of your service or product. Use social media platforms to showcase your work through videos or behind-the-scenes looks. This can be low-cost and highly effective in building credibility and earning respect.
Internal Reflection
A good way of improving is to regularly reflect on your own performance. Instead of blaming external factors, look internally to identify areas where you can improve. Set aside time each week for self-assessment. Ask yourself: "What did I do well? What could I have done better?" This will help you continuously grow and adapt.
Continuous Learning
It's important to always strive to improve yourself and your skills. If you’re facing challenges in gaining respect, perhaps it’s about needing further development rather than external biases. Enroll in online courses, read books, or find a mentor who can provide guidance. Many resources are free or low-cost, which makes them accessible and valuable.
Skill Development
I recommend focusing on specific skills that are critical to your business or personal growth. Identify one key skill that needs improvement and dedicate time each day to work on it. Whether it's improving your marketing strategies, learning new software, or becoming better at public speaking, incremental improvements can make a big difference over time.
Practical Application
Instead of just acquiring knowledge, make sure to put it into practice. If you learn a new business strategy, apply it immediately to see how it works. Hands-on experience will reinforce learning and demonstrate your capabilities to others.
By focusing on these actionable and low-cost strategies, you'll not only show your expertise but also continuously improve, gaining respect and achieving your goals.
