Do What You’re Scared Of
Summary
- Change can be scary, and it's normal to feel resistance. Just decide to face the fear today, and it can give you a sense of freedom.
- Often, the real reason we don't change is because we're scared of the feelings that come with change, rather than the change itself.
- The worst thing you usually experience from change is just a feeling, nothing more.
- Remind yourself that you can carry your emotions with you, whether it's fear, anxiety, frustration, or anger, and you don't have to act on them.
- Understanding that feelings are temporary can help you move forward even when you're scared.

How To Take Action
I suggest starting by acknowledging that change is often scary, and it's okay to feel resistance. The first step is deciding to face your fear today. Just having that mindset can give you a sense of freedom.
A practical way to implement this is to identify one small change you’ve been avoiding. Maybe it’s starting a new project or learning a new skill. Each day, remind yourself that the main barrier is usually just a feeling—and that feeling won't hurt you. Write this down as a reminder somewhere visible.
You can also practice carrying your emotions without acting on them. When you feel anxious or frustrated, pause and name what you're feeling. Say to yourself, "I feel anxious, and that's okay." By doing this, you acknowledge your feelings but remind yourself they're temporary and don't need to dictate your actions.
Another method is to use a mantra. It can be simple, like "Feel the fear and do it anyway." Repeat this whenever you're tempted to back down from a challenging change.
Remember, the worst part of change is usually just the feelings that come with it. By recognizing these feelings are temporary, you can shift your focus from anxiety to action, making each step towards change a bit easier. Try reflecting on how handling these feelings successfully has improved past situations, and use those experiences to propel you forward.
