How To Take Action
I would suggest implementing a few key strategies to navigate the fast growth of a small business effectively.
First, clearly communicate the realities of working in a fast-growing business to new team members. Tell them about the hard work, long hours, and limited backup upfront. This way, you set proper expectations, and they can decide if they are up for the challenge. Use simple meetings or an orientation session to lay everything out plainly.
Next, focus on building strong communication channels. As the team grows, make sure everyone knows how to reach out and connect with each other. Implementing regular check-ins, using instant messaging apps, or setting up a simple project management tool can help keep everyone on the same page without needing a lot of time or money.
Since some people might realize this environment isn't for them, make sure you’re hiring the right people from the start. Look for qualities like flexibility, resilience, and a strong work ethic. You can do this by asking situational questions during interviews that reveal how candidates handle stress and change.
Lastly, be transparent about your own experiences and the lessons you've learned as a leader. Share stories about the challenges and what the team can expect. This builds trust and prepares everyone for the upcoming journey.
By focusing on these simple, cost-effective strategies, you can manage the growth of your business more smoothly and ensure that you're bringing the right people along with you.

everyone can say I want to be in a small business that grows fast and all that until they're like oh my God I don't have anyone to back me up and it's hard to take days off and I have to work more hours and like I can't check out like that's the downside of working in a business like that and in the beginning it feels you know a little different when it's just a few people but then when they realize like your attention starting to spread amongst other people there's other people coming in that they have to communicate with there's more rules that they have to put in place they start to think like maybe this isn't for me I don't see that as a bad thing um now the reason that it's probably feels crappy to you is because you haven't been where you are currently before so you don't know to warn them like this is where we're going and what it's going to look like are you down for that so I don't think that's a bad thing I think that you just have to take this lesson and say what kind of people do I need given this type of business now
