Fear is an Inch Deep

Summary

  • Fear can seem huge and scary, but it often turns out to be much smaller and manageable once you face it.
  • I was terrified of being judged online, which stopped me from making content for four years despite Alex encouraging me.
  • It's embarrassing to admit that I could run a hundred-million-dollar company but was scared to post on Instagram.
  • When I finally posted the content, I realized that avoiding my fear for so long had lowered my self-respect.
  • Every time I've faced something that starts with fear, it ends with me feeling more confident.

How To Take Action

I would suggest implementing these ideas and actions to help you grow personally or in your business.

Face Your Fears Directly

Fear can seem huge, but it's often smaller than we think. Start by identifying a fear that's holding you back. It could be as simple as posting on social media or making a new business pitch. Take a small step today to face it. For example, record a short video introducing yourself or outline a new product idea and share it with a trusted friend.

Build Confidence by Action

Taking action against your fears builds confidence. Push through the discomfort. Make a commitment to do one thing each day that makes you nervous. It could be sending an email to a potential client, starting a conversation with a stranger, or sharing your thoughts online.

Reflect and Learn

After taking action, take a moment to reflect. How did it feel? What did you learn? Did it turn out as scary as you thought? Write these reflections down. This helps you see your progress and learn from each experience.

Low-Cost Implementation

You don't need to spend a lot of money or time on this. Use free platforms like Instagram or LinkedIn to post your content. Journal your reflections with a simple notebook or a free online document tool. These small investments can bring significant returns in confidence and self-respect.

Set Realistic Goals

Start with small, manageable goals. If you're afraid to speak in public, start with a small group. If posting regularly on social media terrifies you, start with one post per week. Gradually increase as you get more comfortable.

Leverage Existing Support

Don't be afraid to seek encouragement from friends or mentors. Use their support to help you stay accountable and gain additional perspectives on how to overcome your fears.

By incorporating these strategies, you'll find that the fears that once seemed huge are much more manageable, and you'll build the self-confidence needed to grow personally and professionally.
