Hire an Executive Assistant

Summary

  • If you have a business, having an awesome EA (Executive Assistant) is crucial. I can't imagine living without mine.
  • One of my EAs just got promoted to Director of Operations. She has learned so much that she can now run many departments without my involvement, which is fantastic.
  • My current EA, Deina, is an angel. When bringing an EA on board, it's important to like them personally because you'll be working closely together.
  • Look for candidates with backgrounds in customer service or concierge roles; the skills are similar to those needed for an EA.
  • If someone is capable and smart, they can teach themselves many things necessary for the role.
  • Trust is key; give your EA as much context as possible. I allow my EA to access everything: calls, Slack messages, and texts because I have nothing to hide.
  • The more your EA understands about your life, not just your business, the more they can help you effectively.
  • Showing trust in your EA not only helps them but also makes your own operations smoother.

How To Take Action

I would suggest implementing a few key strategies to get the best out of an Executive Assistant (EA). Here are some easy, low-cost, high-value actions you can take:

  1. Hire an EA with the Right Background: Look for candidates with experience in customer service or concierge roles. These backgrounds have similar skill sets to what an EA needs. This can save you time and money on extensive training.

  2. Focus on Trust and Transparency: Start by being open with your EA. Let them see your calls, messages, and texts. Trust is crucial. The more they understand your personal and business life, the better they can assist you.

  3. Promote Learning and Independence: Hire someone who is smart and capable of learning on their own. Encourage them to teach themselves the necessary skills. This makes them more valuable to you over time without additional cost.

  1. Compatibility Matters: Make sure you like your EA personally. You’ll be working closely together, so personal compatibility is important for a smooth working relationship.

  2. Empower Your EA: Give your EA the freedom to handle tasks independently. This can lessen your workload and make operations smoother.

By following these steps, you can make your business and personal life more efficient without spending a lot of money or time. You’ll see great value in a trustworthy, competent EA who can grow with your business.
