How to Become the Best…

Summary

  • If you're trying to earn more in sales, focus less on comparing your commission checks and more on the actions taken by top performers.
  • Look at the number of calls the top salesperson is making, their script practice frequency, and how early they start and finish work.
  • Match or, ideally, double or triple the effort of those who are ahead if you're new to the game.
  • Remember how Kobe Bryant outworked others by practicing twice as much; this approach will initially put you on par with others before eventually leading you to outpace them.
  • Trust that aligning your inputs with successful people will result in similar successes over time.

How To Take Action

I would suggest looking at what the top dogs are doing first. See how many calls they make, how they practice their word play, and how soon they start their day compared to you. Don't just stare at how much they make. Match their actions or do even more—two or three times more, like Kobe. He practiced way more than anyone else. At first, you'll just catch up, but keep at it, and you'll pass them.

Here's a plan to step it up:

  1. Count how many calls the top seller makes every day. Try to make the same number or more.
  2. Practice your selling talk as much as you can. Do it more than once a day.
  3. Start your workday early, just like the top sellers. See what time they begin and aim to start before them.
  4. Don't leave work until you've done more than them. Look at what time they end their day and push past that.

Trust that doing these things, putting in the work, will pay off. You won't see big money right away, but over time, doing the right things will get you there. Stay focused on the work, and the results will follow.

if there's a top sales guy in your organization who's making more money than you compare not what his commission check is to yours every month compare how many calls he's making how many times you practices the script how many calls he's made before you how many sales he's closed before you what time of day he shows up at work what time of day he leaves if you're doing all the inputs the outputs will always match on a long enough time Horizon and if you are new to the game then my recommendation is not only to match inputs but to double or triple the inputs that someone ahead of you is doing you got to be like Kobe right where everyone else is doing one practice a day you do two practices a day and in the beginning they'll be better than you and then you'll match them but because you're doing twice the work eventually you'll get better and then that's how you win
