How to Keep Going…

Summary

  • I often get asked how I keep pushing to the next level. The key is focusing on the Delta between how hard I tried and how hard I can possibly try.
  • If I know that the gap between those two is zero, then I have won.
  • Whenever something is really hard, I see it as an opportunity to empty the tank and give my all.
  • Obsessing over external outcomes takes too long and can lead to giving up too soon.

How To Take Action

I would suggest implementing a mindset shift that zeroes in on the Delta between how hard you tried and how hard you can try. Here’s how to put these ideas into action:

  1. Evaluate Effort Gaps:
Take a moment daily to reflect on your effort for key tasks. Ask yourself, "Did I give my all, or was there more I could have done?" Close this Delta by consciously pushing yourself a bit harder each time.

  2. Embrace Challenges:
When you face a difficult task, reframe it in your mind as a chance to "empty the tank." View hardships as opportunities to test your limits and strengthen your resilience. This mental flip can turn potentially discouraging situations into empowering experiences.

  3. Focus on Inputs, Not Outcomes:

Instead of obsessing over results, direct your energy towards what you can control – your effort. Set small, action-oriented goals each day, like making an extra sales call or spending an additional 10 minutes perfecting a task. This keeps you motivated and can prevent burnout from unmet expectations.

  1. Track Your Progress:
Keep a simple log or journal where you note your effort levels. This can be as easy as rating yourself on a scale of 1 to 10 at the end of the day. Over time, you’ll see patterns and areas where you can push harder.

  2. Create a Support System:
Surround yourself with like-minded individuals who will encourage you to keep pushing. Share your goals and challenges with them, and you’ll likely find mutual support and motivation.

By implementing these low-cost, high-value strategies, you can stay focused on giving your best effort and making constant progress. Your aim is to ensure the gap between how hard you tried and how hard you can try is zero. This mindset will drive continuous growth and achievement.
