How to Set Goals…
Summary
- Set goals based on actions you can completely control; you can't control book sales, but you can control your efforts to sell them.
- Measure success by your commitment to the actions you've decided to take, not just by the end result.
- If your life depended on selling 10,000 books in 12 months, think about the extreme actions you'd take to ensure you reach that goal.

How To Take Action
I would suggest setting goals based on actions you have full power over. If you have a book to sell, you can't control how many people buy it. But you can control how hard you work to sell it. So, make a plan you can stick to, and then you can measure how well you're doing by how much you're sticking to that plan.
A good way of doing this is to ask yourself, if your life depended on selling 10,000 books in 12 months, what would you do? Think about all the non-stop effort you would put in. Then, take that kind of thinking and use it to make a plan with small, doable steps. Maybe start by reaching out to five new people each day or setting up one book event every week.
Remember, the key is to focus on what you can do every day. So, before you start, ask yourself these three things: What actions can I fully control? What does extreme commitment to these actions look like? How can I make sure I am doing these actions every single day?
Make sure your plan has clear, daily tasks. Write these tasks down and track them. This way, you know you're doing something every day to meet that big goal. It's not about selling all the books in one go; it's about doing something each day that takes you closer to that goal. If you do this, you won't just depend on luck or hope. You'll be making sure it happens with your own daily actions.
