I Didn’t Like Who I Was…
Summary
- Last year, I realized I wasn't being decisive enough.
- I told my team that I needed to work on my decisiveness.
- I have a team of very smart people with different opinions, which can make it hard to make decisions.
- I shared with my team that I didn't like feeling indecisive and wanted to change that.
- I asked my team to flag me if I leaned too far in one direction.
- Feedback is important, and if I disagree with someone's opinion, that's okay.
- The more people who know what you're working on, the faster you improve.
- Getting training and feedback from outside sources is more powerful than just training ourselves.

How To Take Action
I would suggest implementing these strategies for your personal growth or business:
-
Acknowledge Your Weaknesses: Just like I did, start by being honest with yourself about areas where you need improvement. It’s okay to feel that you can do better.
-
Communicate with Your Team: Whether it's a business team or a personal support system, share what you're working on. This helps create an environment of accountability. For instance, you could say, "I'm working on being more decisive. Please let me know if you notice me wavering."
-
Seek Diverse Opinions: Having smart people around you with different opinions is a resource. Make sure you listen, but also set clear boundaries about decision-making. You can say, "I appreciate your feedback, but I believe this direction is best right now."
-
Ask for Active Feedback: Encourage those around you to flag you when you lean too far in one direction. This helps you stay balanced and grounded in your decisions. You might say, "If you see I'm being indecisive, please call it out."
-
Be Okay with Disagreement: Understand that it's alright to disagree with others. Not every decision will be universally accepted. The key is to make a choice and stick to it, even in the face of differing opinions.
-
Leverage External Training: Sometimes, improvement is faster when guided by external experts. Seek out mentors, coaches, or training programs to gain fresh insights and learn faster.
Implement these steps consistently and watch how quickly you grow and improve in your personal and professional life. Keep the process simple and relatable, focusing on low-cost, high-impact actions that can be easily integrated into your daily routine.
