“I Feel So Overwhelmed”

Summary

  • When you feel overwhelmed, it often means that you're facing high demands with low clarity on what to focus on. To ease that sense of being overwhelmed, you need to prioritize your tasks and potentially eliminate some.
  • Begin by examining the tasks on your plate and identify which ones are time-sensitive and which are less urgent.
  • Consider the meetings on your schedule; if there are any that you don't need to attend or that may not be productive, go ahead and decline them to free up more time for your critical tasks.
  • By focusing on immediate deadlines and reducing unnecessary commitments, you can create a clearer and more manageable to-do list.

How To Take Action

I would suggest first taking a deep breath and making a list. Write down every task you're thinking about. Then, take a close look at your list. See which tasks have deadlines coming up, like the article due tomorrow. Put those first.

Next, check your meetings. Are there any you don't really need to go to? Maybe they're not about your work, or maybe they just take up time without helping much. It's okay to say no to those meetings.

If you feel like your list is still too long, see if there are things you can take off. Ask yourself, "Do I really need to do this now? Is it important for my goals?" If it’s not, you can take it off your list.

Sometimes, when there’s too much to do, you might need help. Think about asking someone else to do some tasks or to help you with them. It's okay to share the work when there's a lot.

Don’t forget to look at your week as a whole. Plan your time so you work on big things a bit at a time. You don't have to do everything in one day. You can also work on small tasks in between the big ones to give your brain a break.

Remember, every day, check your list again. Adjust it if you need to. When you finish something, cross it off. That can make you feel good and help you see how much you've done.

Most importantly, give yourself breaks, too. Working all the time without rest can make you tired and less able to do things well. Taking short breaks helps your mind relax and makes you ready to work again.
