internship and i was like what's the number one internship that you can get here and they're like you become an intern at this like really fancy retreat center i said i'm gonna try and do that one they were like well only one in every couple hundred get in so i made it to the top ten interviews i flew out i did an interview on site i thought they hated me and then they called me a week later and said you got the internship and i was like mine within i think a month i flew out there and what i didn't know is they said i gonna be living on site i figured i'd be living at the retreat center well actually i'm looking at a cabin that's three quarters a mile from the retreat center in the middle of mountains and woods and so i'm like a 22 year old fresh out of college i'd never really been alone to that extent before i went to my little cabin and then i would walk a three-quarters mile at 4 am to the retreat center it was pitch black and there were no lights and i was walking in this dirt path and so i just had a flashlight and all i would do because i was so terrified because there's bears in the woods and so i had bear spray and i had my flashlight and i literally just held the flashlight held the bear spray and just like booked it the whole every day super high cortisol like sweating like scared like i'm not listening to a podcast i'm not singing like not i was just terrified every time i would lead a hike then i would teach classes through the day i would usually like work with some clients one-on-one and then i would do a hike at the end of the day and then i would walk back and then i would just be alone and i didn't have cell service there and the internet was really really bad and it was probably the time when i was one the most stressed out because it was really high pressure like they were very particular about how you showed up and you know i remember one time i showed up without eyeliner i'd like mascara onto my eyeliner and she was like you need to go back and put some eyeliner on and i was like okay you know i was physically doing probably five hours of physical activity a day and i was all alone and i was at a different time zone than all my friends were on eastern and they were all still in college and like partying and having fun and i was like man this is really lonely but what i learned is like all the good things that came from solitude right like really getting to know yourself getting to have time to spend by yourself learning to have fun by yourself you know i think that a lot of people don't know how to have fun alone and i'm really grateful that i got to experience that if you can put yourself in a situation where you can be alone one we adapt really quickly so like you'll learn to like it pretty quickly and two i think it just gives you a sense of self-reliance if you don't need anything or anyone it makes life a lot easier right because you can enjoy things for what they are rather than having really high expectations for other things to give you a sense of self that you can't give yourself like people so it was a really good experience overall but it was um it was hard [Music] you
