I Thought They’d be Happy…

Summary

  • When I started my gym and slept on the floor, everyone supported my pursuit of the American dream.
  • However, once I outsourced my facility in 9 months and opened my second and third locations, the same supporters became cynical.
  • They viewed my success negatively when I would just collect payments instead of engaging in daily operations.
  • I learned that when your success reaches or exceeds that of others, they may stop rooting for you.
  • The critical takeaway is to pursue your dreams for yourself and not for the validation of others; that's the only way to maintain your drive in the face of changing opinions.

How To Take Action

I would suggest focusing on your own goals and not what others think of your success. Here's how you can do that:

  1. Identify Your Personal Goals: First, figure out what you really want to achieve with your business or personal growth. Write these goals down and keep them somewhere you can see them every day.

  2. Celebrate Small Wins: Each little success is a step towards your dream. Celebrate these, even if they're as small as getting through your to-do list.

  3. Outsource Early: When you start making some profit, invest in outsourcing tasks that take up too much of your time but don't directly contribute to your goals. This could be cleaning, accounting, or customer service. Use low-cost services like virtual assistants or part-time help.

  1. Ignore the Naysayers: Remember, people might get cynical when you start to do well. Remind yourself that you're doing this for you, not for them.

  2. Keep Learning and Growing: Read books, watch videos, or take courses that can help you grow your business or yourself. Use free or affordable resources online.

  3. Stay Humble, But Confident: As you grow, stay humble. Talk to your customers and employees to keep a good relationship. But also stay confident in your path.

By following these steps, you're building a strong foundation for your business or personal growth. Keep your dreams alive by focusing on what you set out to do, regardless of what others think. Remember, do it for you, not for them.
