I Wasn’t Ready to Take Action

Summary

  • Before starting my own business, I spent a lot of time learning from podcasts, books, and events without actually creating anything.
  • I used to think I needed one more piece of information before I could start my business.
  • Not taking action was harming my self-confidence, and I didn't realize this was holding me back.
  • It wasn't a lack of information or resources stopping me, but the decrease in confidence each time I failed to move forward.
  • Taking action, even when you don't feel fully prepared, is crucial for building confidence and getting started.

How To Take Action

I would suggest starting with a small step today. Don't wait for the perfect moment. Action builds confidence. Spend less time consuming information like podcasts and books, and use what you learn to create something, no matter how small. This might be sketching a business idea or starting a simple project.

A good way of doing this is to set a timer for 30 minutes. During this half-hour, focus solely on creating something related to your goals. It could be writing a blog post if you want to share knowledge, or outlining a business plan if you’re thinking about starting a business. Do this daily. Keep the time commitment low, so it's not overwhelming, but consistent enough to build confidence.

Remember, it's not about not having enough information or resources. You're likely ready to begin; it’s your confidence that needs that nudge. Every time you choose action over passive learning, you're telling yourself that you can do it.

If you’re worried about making mistakes, remind yourself that it's part of the process. Learning from doing is much more effective than learning from just thinking about doing. You learn what works by seeing what doesn't. So, embrace the missteps as they come. They are proof you are moving forward.

By taking these little actions, before you know it, you’ll have started something real. And from there, you can grow, learn more, and adjust your direction as needed. But it all begins with that first step. So take it, and trust in your ability to learn and adapt as you go.

before I started my business I was constantly consuming things I was consuming podcasts reading books going to free events I was basically consuming all things possible and I wasn't creating anything I always felt like I just wasn't ready it just felt like there's like one piece of information that if I acquire the information then I'll be ready to do the thing what I was doing was continuing to degrade my sense of self-confidence every time I didn't take a step forward and I didn't realize that that was actually the reason I wasn't starting not lack of information not the lack of resources it was the fact that my confidence continued to go down because I wasn't just taking action despite not feeling ready
