If You Have An Inexperienced Team

Summary

  • I believe in the value of having a smart, capable, and autonomous team, even though it often leads to strong differing opinions.
  • It's important to embrace the normality of conflict within a talented team instead of seeking agreement from less experienced people.
  • I prefer to work with a team that challenges ideas and fosters debate, as this is a sign of capability and drive.
  • Having high-performing individuals who push back on each other's ideas means I am surrounded by people who are intelligent and driven.
  • I've learned to be thankful for the strong opinions on my team because it reflects their competence and commitment.

How To Take Action

I would suggest embracing the idea that a super talented and smart team will have different opinions. If you're running a small business or working on personal growth, remember, it's good when people don't always agree. When your team is full of strong opinions, it shows they're smart and care a lot about their work.

A good way of doing things is to look for people who are not afraid to debate ideas. It might feel easier to get everyone to say "yes" all the time, but it's much better to have folks who push back and challenge each other. That means they're thinking hard and want the best for your business.

Here's what you can do:

  1. When you're picking people for your team, choose those who are not just smart, but also brave enough to speak their minds.
  2. Don't get upset when your team members disagree with each other. Instead, be thankful they're working so hard.
  3. Keep in mind that having different ideas come up in your team meetings is a sign you're surrounded by committed people.
  4. Learn to love these debates. They mean your team is made up of people who really want to make things better.

Always look for valuable team members. Be thankful for strong opinions, because they make your team amazing. And remember, you want a team that's fighting for what's best because they're smart and care a lot – not just saying "yes" to everything.
