Most Parents Don’t Want the Best for You…

Summary

  • I've faced criticism from parents who claim to want the best for their children, but in reality, they often desire a version of their kids that reflects well on them.
  • Family members typically align more closely with your long-term goals than strangers, which makes their opinions and interests more relevant to you.
  • However, it's important to recognize that no one's interests align perfectly with yours except for your own future self.
  • Making decisions based on what future you would want has been a challenging yet rewarding approach for me.

How To Take Action

I would suggest thinking about family opinions like this: your family might want what's best for you, but sometimes they might care more about what makes them look good. So when you listen to family, remember that they're more on your side than strangers, but they still don't see things exactly like you do.

Here’s what to do next:

  1. Keep Your Future Self in Mind: When making decisions, ask yourself, "What would the future me, say five years from now, think about this choice?" This helps to make sure you're picking the best path for you and not just what others want.

  2. Weigh Advice Against Your Goals: If family gives you advice, think about your long-term goals. If their suggestions help you get closer to where you want to be in the long run, consider it seriously.

  3. It's Okay to Go Your Own Way: Remember that it's fine to make choices that are right for you, even if your family doesn’t quite get it. Trusting yourself can lead to good things, even if it's hard at first.

  1. Have Open Conversations: Talk with your family about your goals. If they understand what you're trying to achieve, they can give better advice that might fit with your plans.

Doing these things can make your life and choices better because you're sticking to what's right for you. And that's the key to growing personally or in business. It might not always be the easiest way, but it can really pay off in the end.
