How To Take Action

Ways to Implement These Lessons and Strategies

Establish Routines Early

I would suggest implementing routines as soon as possible. Before you move, take a little time to research where you will handle your daily activities. Find out where you will exercise, buy groceries, and run other errands. This will help you feel settled and more at home in your new environment quickly.

Connect with Local People

A good way of meeting new people is to make an effort to be sociable. Whether you're in an elevator, a store, or taking a walk, don't hesitate to strike up conversations and suggest meeting up for a meal or a coffee. The idea is to put yourself out there and not be shy about inviting others to hang out.

Proactive Socializing

When you move, it's essential to get comfortable with the idea of proactively socializing. If you’re waiting for people to come to you, it might take a long time to build a new circle of friends. So, make the first move in social settings. Whether it’s someone you see regularly around your new neighborhood or a colleague at work, don’t hesitate to suggest getting together outside of your usual activities.

Balance Work and Personal Time

Even if you're spending a lot of time working, allocate some time to build personal connections outside work. A few strong relationships can make a big difference in how you adjust to a new place. Prioritize at least a little bit of time each week to get to know new people and participate in social activities.

Be Consistent and Persistent

Don’t be discouraged if you don’t make friends right away. Consistency is key. Keep going out, keep talking to new people, and be patient. Building a network takes time, but by consistently putting in the effort, you will eventually establish meaningful connections.

Remember, the faster you can incorporate these habits into your daily routine, the quicker you'll feel at home in your new environment.

I've moved a decent amount of times and I think people tell themselves that it's going to be hard and they tell themselves how much of a change it's going to be and I think I just think more about how there's a lot of similarities I always try to establish like my routines ahead of time and looking at like where am I going to work out where am I going to go for food where am I going to go for this I'm always looking at those things so I can get settled and then the last piece to it is meeting people in the area if that may be you know for me I bought a building and I have my team here now and so I spend most of my discretionary time with at the office with my team but the time that I do have outside of that I probably have a handful of people that you know I'll do things with from time to time and those are people that you know you have to make an effort to become friends with so like you've got to go out there you got to put yourself out there like when we first moved here you know we live in a Condo building I'm meeting people in the freaking elevator and saying like do you want to have dinner like here's my number like I'm just like it I don't care like no shame and a lot of times the reason it's hard for people when they move is because they're not willing to make friends because they're not willing to put themselves out there
