How To Take Action
I would suggest implementing a few key strategies to get the most out of new hires and ensure they feel valued and effective from day one.
First, give your new hires meaningful and manageable tasks right away. These tasks should be clear and achievable, allowing them to contribute immediately. For example, if you have daily operations that involve simple yet important steps, assign a few of these to your new hire. It can help them learn the ropes and feel accomplished quickly.
A good way to build these quick-win tasks is to think about small but impactful areas in your business where help is needed. Maybe it’s organizing files, managing a small project, or even ordering supplies – things that are necessary but don’t take too much time to learn.
When they complete these tasks, be sure to give immediate and specific praise. Just like when my assistant bought winter clothes for me on her second day, saying thank you and acknowledging their good work can boost their confidence. Always highlight how their effort made a difference. For instance, “Thank you for organizing those files; it made finding information much easier for the team today.”
Remember, the goal is to make new hires feel connected and important from the start. This approach not only helps them adjust quickly but also fosters a positive and productive work environment at a low cost and with minimal time investment.
