My Thoughts On Therapists
Summary
- I've observed many therapists enter their field to address their own issues, but sometimes they lack self-awareness.
- This absence of self-awareness in therapists hinders their ability to effectively evaluate and assist their patients.
- I believe it's a common problem that therapists label individuals with issues which can result in people identifying with those issues too strongly.
- I advocate for a more constructive approach that focuses on individual behaviors and context rather than dwelling on past experiences or traumas.
- The key is to concentrate on what actions can be changed presently, rather than only discussing one's history and deep-seated issues.
- Emphasizing actionable change over expansive analysis of one's past can lead to more effective therapy and personal growth.

How To Take Action
To get better at helping others or yourself, focus on actions you can change. Try not to get stuck on labels or past issues. Here's what to do:
- Pay attention to what you do and how it works out. Are there things you tend to do that make problems? Notice when and where they happen. This is being self-aware.
- If you're a therapist or helping someone, don't just give them a label. Labels can stick and make it hard to move forward.
- Ask, "What can we do about it?" It's about finding actions to change, not just talking about problems.
- Instead of only talking about the past, look at the now. What can you do differently today?
- When thinking about problems, think of the behaviors and the times they happen. That way, you know what to work on.
Remember, it's more helpful to change what you do now than to keep going over old stuff. Change happens with new actions, not just words. So start doing things differently today, and you'll start to see progress in therapy or your personal growth.
