Networking or Knowledge?

Summary

  • I have always valued knowledge and leaned towards learning and studying on my own.
  • While I also recognize the importance of connections, I prefer deep one-on-one relationships over large networking events.
  • Networking events involving a lot of posturing never appealed to me.
  • Both routes, self-learning and networking, can lead to success.
  • It's important to know whether you are stronger in studying on your own or networking with people.
  • Understanding your strengths will help you choose the best path to succeed.

How To Take Action

I would suggest implementing these strategies based on whether you prefer self-learning or networking to grow your small business or personal skills effectively.

If you prefer self-learning:

  • Set Daily Learning Goals: Dedicate 30 minutes every day to study a new topic related to your business or personal growth. Use free resources like podcasts, YouTube, or online articles.
  • Join Online Courses: Invest in low-cost online courses or utilize free platforms like Coursera or Khan Academy. Focus on skills that directly impact your business.
  • Read Regularly: Make a habit of reading books that industry leaders recommend. Libraries often provide access to a wide range of business and self-help books without any cost.

If you prefer networking:

  • Join Small Groups: Focus on joining smaller, more intimate networking groups. Look for local business meetups or online communities where you can develop deeper connections.
  • Leverage Social Media: Use platforms like LinkedIn to connect with industry peers. Engage in meaningful conversations and offer value in groups related to your niche.
  • Schedule One-on-One Meetings: Rather than attending large events, arrange coffee meetings or virtual chats with key individuals who can impact your business.

Regardless of which path you choose, stay consistent and genuine. Understanding your strengths will guide you to success. It’s essential to lead with what makes you feel comfortable and happy, whether that's diving deep into knowledge or forging strong personal connections.

I have always gone the route of knowledge um and I think definitely more heavy on Connections in the beginning but still always leading with knowledge because I think a lot of the times I think either one works and so maybe it's actually a question of are you great at with people and great at networking or are you great at studying and learning on your own you know for me I've always liked to study and learn on my own um and that makes me happy I don't necessarily like networking so much I like building deep relationships but being in a room with 50 people where you know I'm going to try and get their contact we get our like that has literally never appealed to me and I don't think ever will mostly because of all the posturing that happens I'm just like it's just like not not my vibe so I think you have to ask yourself which route you want to take both of them work um and I know plenty of people who have taken the route of networking and they just like Network their asses off and it really benefits them and their business um so it's just a matter of knowing yourself because you will win either way it's just a matter of which one you lead with
