Nobody Will Congratulate You After This

Summary

  • I've noticed that once you've established success, people stop applauding your wins because they expect you to keep succeeding.
  • It can be tough to maintain motivation since running a business day-to-day no longer garners the same praise as it did in the early stages.
  • The challenge of keeping a business going is just as hard as starting it, but it often goes unrecognized and unrewarded.
  • This lack of daily positive reinforcement can make it more difficult for leaders to persist through the ongoing demands of running a company.
  • As an entrepreneur, be prepared for the shift from receiving congratulatory feedback to experiencing silent expectations of continuous success.

How To Take Action

  • To keep motivation high, celebrate your own wins, no matter how routine or small they might seem. Set personal milestones and reward yourself when you reach them to create your own positive reinforcement.
  • Recognize and appreciate your own hard work. Sometimes, after the initial start-up phase, the excitement fades. Remind yourself why you started and acknowledge your continued efforts.
  • Surround yourself with supportive people. This might be friends, family, or a network of other entrepreneurs who understand the journey and can provide encouragement when external praise is lacking.
  • Keep a record of positive feedback and accomplishments. Look back at this when times are tough or when you feel underappreciated to remind yourself of past successes and the impact you've made.
  • Adjust your expectations. Know that it's normal for excitement to wane and for success to become expected. Mentally preparing for this shift can help mitigate feelings of disappointment when external accolades stop coming in.

Here's what you can start doing right now:

  • Celebrate small achievements: Every time you hit a mini-goal or manage to solve a problem, take a moment to celebrate. This keeps motivation up.
  • Create a 'win' journal: Write down every little win or positive feedback you get. When you’re feeling down, read it to remember how far you've come.
  • Build a support network: Find people who also run businesses and talk with them. They know what it's like and can give you that clap on the back when you need it.
  • Self-recognition: At the end of each day, list what you achieved. Even if it's just keeping things running smoothly, that’s important, and you did it!

Remember, running a business is tough. It's important to find ways to keep the flame of motivation burning, even when applause from others fades away.

most people think you're going to fail anyways once you have something going people expect you to win and so nobody's going to congratulate you for winning month after month year after year because it's just an expectation you think people are like congratulating me left and right on like keeping the business going no nobody says anything jack they're like that's your job so it just goes from this thing that people congratulate you for to an expectation that's obviously what you do that's what happens next well what happens next is just as hard as what got started but nobody rewards anybody for that that can make it harder for people to keep going because there is not a lot of reinforcement on a daily basis to the person running the company for just continuing to run the company and do the hard things day after day year after year he's getting something started
