On The Other Side of Fear is Freedom π
Summary
- A lot of people are scared to go to the gym for the first time, fearing they will look out of place.
- I used to feel extremely nervous about going to the gym when I was overweight.
- Initially, going to the gym can be daunting, but after about 5 days, it becomes enjoyable.
- Running away from a fear makes it worse and bigger, and avoiding it also amplifies it.
- The first step to overcoming fear is to give yourself some space. Sit with the thought or feeling for 5 minutes.
- Thoughts and feelings pass whether you take action on them or not.
- Often, we think we have to do something to get rid of uncomfortable feelings, but sitting with them helps reduce their power.
- Taking small steps toward the source of negative thoughts or emotions can transform them into positive associations.

How To Take Action
Overcoming Fear and Taking Action
I would suggest implementing some small, actionable steps to overcome fears and improve personal growth or business. These strategies don't require much time or money but can offer high value.
1. Sit with Uncomfortable Feelings:
- When you feel scared or nervous about starting something, like going to the gym or launching a new business idea, just take 5 minutes to sit with that feeling. Donβt try to make it go away. Simply let it be there. This helps reduce its power over you.
2. Break Down the Fear:
- Avoiding what scares you can make the fear bigger. Take small steps toward what you fear. For example, if you're afraid of public speaking, start by talking in front of a mirror, then to a few friends, and gradually to larger groups.
3. Gradual Exposure:
- If youβre scared to go to the gym, try going at a less busy time or with a friend who makes you feel comfortable. After a few visits, you'll likely start to enjoy it more.
4. Celebrate Small Wins:
- Acknowledge every small step you take toward overcoming your fear. Whether itβs a day you spent 5 minutes sitting with your feelings or a successful gym session, celebrate it.
5. Create a Routine:
- Consistency helps in reducing anxiety. Create a routine around the activity you fear. Doing it regularly, even if it's just for a few minutes, can make it feel more natural and less daunting.
By taking these small, manageable steps, you can overcome fear and grow personally or professionally. Itβs about moving forward little by little, creating positive associations to replace negative ones.
