How To Take Action

I would suggest thinking about overthinking differently. Don't see it as a bad thing. It’s more like you’re just new at controlling your thoughts. To get better, know that it’s okay that your brain seems tricky sometimes. But guess what? You can totally learn to guide your thoughts in the right way!

Here's how you might practice shaping your thoughts:

  • Take Baby Steps: Start small. Try to catch yourself when you start overthinking. Just say, "Oops! I see you, tricky thoughts!" Then, try to switch to thinking about something fun or important to do.

  • Set Aside Worry Time: It sounds funny, but pick a time to worry on purpose! Like, maybe after school for 10 minutes. If you start overthinking at other times, tell yourself, "I’ll think about this during my worry time." Then, go do something else.

  • Make It a Game: When a worry pops up, challenge yourself. Think, "Is this a big deal or a little deal?" If it’s little, imagine shrinking it down and flick it away in your mind.

  • Write It Down: If your head is spinning with lots of thoughts, grab a piece of paper. Write them all down. Then, it's like they're in a safe spot, and you don’t have to keep spinning them around in your head.

Just remember, getting good at managing your thoughts doesn't happen super fast. It's like learning to ride a bike or play a new video game. You’ll get there if you keep practicing. Every time you guide your brain back on track, you’re winning! So give yourself a high five for each tiny victory, and keep going. You'll be a thought-managing superhero before you know it!
