People Get This So Wrong When Training Sales

Summary

  • Always strive for strict adherence to the sales script during training; it's the primary goal.
  • When I listened to the last six sales calls, none of them sounded the same, signaling a lack of script adherence.
  • Emphasize that using the script will lead to more money for both salespeople and the business.
  • Once everyone consistently follows the script, you can implement changes quickly across the team.
  • Troubleshoot sales problems by ensuring everyone on the team avoids doing their own thing and sticks to the script.

How To Take Action

I would suggest focusing on making sure everyone sticks to the sales script. Practice makes perfect, right? Make it clear that following the script means more cash for both the sales team and the business. So everyone wins!

Remember, if you listen to calls and they all sound different, that's a red flag. It means people aren't using the script like they should. To fix this, here's what you can do step by step:

  1. Training: Provide training sessions where the sales script is the star. Go over it until it's second nature to your team.
  2. Incentives: Let your team know that using the script well means better sales and more bonus for them.
  3. Monitoring: Regularly check in on sales calls. Are they sticking to the script?
  4. Feedback: If they're not, offer constructive feedback and help them get back on track.
  5. Quick Changes: Once everyone's on the script, if you need to make updates, it's a snap. You'll change one thing, and everyone will follow.

Don't let your sales team go rogue and do their own thing. That only makes troubleshooting sales issues harder. So get everyone on board with the script. It might seem strict, but it's how you'll make sure the whole team is playing the same game—and winning together.
