Punishment Robs Them From Moving Forward With Power…

Summary

  • When someone has a bad day, it's important to avoid focusing only on what they did wrong. Instead, offer constructive feedback alongside any necessary corrections.
  • Simply telling people what not to do may have short-term benefits as they might follow it out of fear. However, it can lead them to dwell on their mistakes and hinder their progress.
  • Praise is a powerful tool; it involves acknowledging what someone did well and encouraging them to repeat those behaviors. This creates a positive path forward.
  • To effectively praise someone, identify specific positive actions rather than general or vague ones. For example, highlighting good tonality on a phone call can encourage continued success.
  • Providing praise requires discipline and attentiveness. It's about actively looking for and highlighting the positive aspects of someone's behavior.
  • I believe in seeing people's potential and nurturing it, which is a key aspect of leadership. Recognizing potential and encouraging growth helps others believe in their own abilities.
  • A fundamental belief I hold is that anyone can achieve anything. This mindset drives me to support others in realizing their potential.

How To Take Action

I would suggest implementing a balanced approach when handling bad days or mistakes. Instead of just pointing out what went wrong, pair feedback with praise. This way, you help others learn without lingering on the negative. It’s effective and keeps the team motivated.

A good way to do this is to spot and highlight what someone did well. Instead of vague compliments, focus on specifics like how they handled a tough call or a smart decision they made. This approach helps them repeat positive behaviors.

Taking the time to praise requires attention and consistency. Make it a habit to spot positives daily, whether it's during meetings or casual interactions. This builds an encouraging environment and fuels personal and professional growth.

Encouraging potential is another key action. Recognize when someone shows promise and encourage them to build on it. This not only boosts their confidence but also drives them to believe in themselves.

Lastly, adopting the mindset that anyone can achieve anything is crucial. When you truly believe in the capabilities of others, it reflects in how you support and lead them. This creates a nurturing environment where people feel empowered to strive toward their goals.

Implement these strategies to cultivate positivity, growth, and achievement, both in yourself and in those around you.

what happened why did you have a bad day dude we got to get back on the phones tomorrow and I need you to hit five don't say that again to Sally cut this out that is punishment basically you just tell people what not to do but when you tell people what not to do the consequences two things one immediately they will adhere to whatever you said cuz they're kind of scared so that's a benefit but the other thing is that now they're dwelling on that mistake they made or they're dwelling on the thing that they did in the past and that robs them of the ability to move forward with power into whatever the solution is whereas praise is finding the to things that he did really well and then I'm saying know that part where you said this that that's it that's the tonality if we get that tonality through the whole call you're going to hit 80% the rest of the week but it takes the person who's praising discipline to look for the positive that has been something that I have always naturally done because I have always seen the potential in people that's why I like leadership is like you can see that thread of potential and you can pull it but I think it comes from the fundamental belief that like I just really believe that anybody can achieve anything
