How To Take Action

Action Plan

Prioritize Incremental Improvements

I would suggest first understanding that progress is not linear, and the biggest gains come at the top levels. For a small business or entrepreneur, focus on becoming excellent in a niche area rather than being average in many.

Focus on the Most Impactful Task

A good way of doing this is to identify the one thing that matters most to your success. Maybe it's improving customer service, or perhaps it's enhancing your main product. Say no to anything that distracts from this main focus area.

Use Data to Make Decisions

Track your performance metrics and identify where small improvements can make a big impact. For example, if you own a business, look at customer feedback and identify one small change in service that can move you from good to excellent in the eyes of your clients.

Optimize Processes

Systematize and streamline your operations. Doing this can free up time and resources to focus on key areas. For entrepreneurs, this might mean using automation tools for repetitive tasks.

Have a Growth Mindset

Always aim to improve, even if the improvements seem small. The move from 95% to 97.5% is where you'll see the most significant gains. Continuously ask yourself where you can tweak things to get better by even a small margin.

Leverage Outsized Returns

Understand that our society rewards those who are at the very top. If you can get into the top 10% to 5% of your industry, the benefits are substantial. Seek to outperform competitors not just slightly but significantly in key areas that matter.

By focusing on these strategies, you'll be able to see high value with relatively low cost and time investments. This methodical and laser-focused approach will help you achieve outsized returns in your business or personal growth.

if you think about this as your progress so let's say this is 10 20 30 40 50 60 70 80% right that's you compared to the rest of the marketplace you get better this whole time and you barely see any improvements in output but all the gains come from being the top 10% to the top 5% all of this gain becomes yours and you gain more from getting from 95 to 97.5 then you did from everything up to 90 because fortunately unfortunately we live in a winter take off society and so if you look at the top selling book on Amazon it sells more than the bottom 5.9 million books on Amazon and so we get outsize returns for incremental improvements here and the only way you can get those incremental improvements is saying no to everything that isn't the one thing that matters most
