The One Thing No One Can Take From You
Summary
- My dad used to say that education is something no one can take from you. Not the government, not a spouse, not even a lawsuit.
- He fled the revolution in Iran and used his medical education to build a new life in the US.
- My dad's relatives owned a private lottery company in Iran and made lots of money but lacked the skills and education.
- When the revolution happened, they could only take what they could carry, and all their assets were seized.
- They couldn't rebuild their wealth because they didn't have the necessary education and skills.

How To Take Action
I would suggest implementing the following strategies:
Prioritize Education
Start by investing in learning. Pick areas that directly impact your business or personal growth. This doesn’t require a lot of money—there are tons of free resources online. Use websites like Coursera, Khan Academy, and YouTube to pick up new skills. Focus on skills that you can immediately put into practice.
Build Practical Skills
Identify key areas where you need to improve. This could be marketing, sales, management, or technical skills. Create a simple schedule to dedicate 30 minutes to an hour each day learning these skills. Consistency matters more than intensity.
Apply What You Learn
Theory is great, but application is king. As you learn, immediately find ways to apply new skills to your business or daily life. This reinforces the learning and shows immediate results. If you’re learning marketing, try out new techniques on social media. If it's management, implement new strategies with your team.
Emphasize Adaptability
Stay adaptable by keeping up with industry trends. Subscribe to relevant newsletters, blogs, or podcasts. Being aware of current changes can offer new opportunities or help you avoid pitfalls. Your ability to adapt will be your biggest asset.
Network with Purpose
Build a network of like-minded individuals either online or locally. Join free networking groups or forums where you can exchange ideas and learn from each other. Surrounding yourself with motivated people can provide support and new perspectives.
Document Learnings
Keep a journal or digital document where you note down key takeaways from what you learn and how you apply them. This acts as a reference guide you can revisit and helps solidify your knowledge.
Focus on these low-cost, high-impact strategies to build a foundation that supports long-term growth and resilience.
