The Price of Your Dreams
Summary
-
I once moved to California in a beat-up Prius, determined to start over and work my way up from the bottom. This taught me the importance of resilience and starting fresh when necessary.
-
Finding a place to live and a job was my priority, so I rented a spot in Costa Mesa that I found on Craigslist. From this, I learned the value of resourcefulness and making things work even in tough situations.
-
I knew about exercise science but nothing about business, so I applied to every gym within walking distance. This showed me that sometimes taking the first step is the most crucial part of starting something new.
-
I landed a job at 24-Hour Fitness, where I had to learn sales skills quickly because my financial well-being depended on it. This was a pivotal moment in developing my business skills, teaching me that new skills can be learned under pressure.
-
The experience of being uncomfortable, with my bank account going down and rent to pay, taught me about handling stress and making difficult situations work in my favor. It's essential to embrace discomfort as a way to grow and learn.
-
The challenges I faced during this period laid the foundation for my business skills, emphasizing that every tough situation can be an opportunity for growth.

How To Take Action
I would suggest implementing resilience as a key mindset. When you face tough times, remind yourself that starting fresh can be the beginning of something great. Just like when I moved to California with no real plan but plenty of determination, keep pushing forward.
A good way of doing things resourcefully is by making the best of what you have. If you're looking for a job or a place to stay, explore all available options, even unconventional ones like I did with Craigslist. This teaches you how to adapt and find creative solutions in challenging situations.
Next, take the first step, no matter how small. Send out job applications or reach out to potential customers. When I applied to all nearby gyms, it was that first step that opened doors. The initial action often leads to new opportunities and growth.
Developing new skills quickly is vital. Staying calm under pressure, like I had to when learning sales at 24-Hour Fitness, can significantly enhance your abilities. Practice a new skill every day or seek situations that push you out of your comfort zone. It’s in these moments that real growth happens.
Finally, embrace discomfort as a teacher. When you're feeling stressed or pressured, recognize these feelings as opportunities to cultivate strength and resilience. By doing so, you build a strong foundation to tackle future challenges with confidence.
