The Problem With Your Communication
Summary
- Communication's purpose is to alter behavior; we talk to get others to take action.
- Before sending an email, be clear on what you want the recipient to do, or they'll likely do nothing.
- Strive for clarity in communication by cutting out the fluff and cleverness.
- Clarity comes from the process of elimination, removing the unnecessary so the necessary can speak.

How To Take Action
I would suggest starting with your emails. When you write one, make sure you know exactly what you want the person on the other end to do. This is the first step to change their behavior. Don't beat around the bush. If you need them to send you a file, say "Please send me the file by Tuesday." Simple and straight to the point is the way to go.
Next, think about how you can talk less and say more. Cut out any words that aren't helping you. That means getting rid of the stuff that's just there to sound fancy. Remember, the goal is to get people to do something, not to show off how many big words you know.
If you're talking to someone or giving instructions, make sure you're clear. For example, if you need your friend to pick up something from the store, don't just say "Can you pick up some things?" Instead, say "Can you buy me a gallon of milk from the grocery store?" The more specific you are, the better they'll understand what you need.
Communication should always be about making things happen. Practice by taking a look at your last email or text. See if there's anything you could have left out. Each time you do this, it gets easier. The point is to remove the stuff that doesn't matter so the important things stand out.
Remember, clarity comes from taking things away until only what's necessary is left. That way, when you talk or write, people will think, "I get it!" and they'll be more likely to do what you’re asking. Keep practicing and watch how things start to change.
