The Reason You Can’t Change Your Life
Summary
- I believe many people struggle to change their lives because they have a poor relationship with their thoughts and feelings.
- I used to think all my thoughts were true, and that I should listen to every feeling as a directive. This mindset hindered my progress.
- For instance, if I felt nervous, I wouldn't take action, or if I thought I might fail, I wouldn't even try. These beliefs held me back.
- It's important to unlearn some common sayings like "trust your gut." If I always trusted my gut, I wouldn't be doing half the things I do now.
- Understanding and educating ourselves on how the brain and feelings work is crucial. I've studied more behavioral psychology than business because it helps me manage my thoughts and emotions.
- This knowledge allows me to lead people confidently. When I can manage my own thoughts and feelings, I'm better equipped to guide others effectively.

How To Take Action
Cultivate a Better Relationship With Your Thoughts and Feelings
I would suggest starting by understanding that not all thoughts and feelings are true or valid indicators of what you should do. Challenge your thoughts when they hold you back. If you feel nervous or think you might fail, recognize these as just signals, not definitive outcomes.
Avoid Absolute Trust in Instincts
A good way of doing this is to be cautious about always “trusting your gut.” If I followed my gut, I wouldn’t be doing many of the successful things I do now. Instead, weigh your instincts against logical reasoning and gather more evidence before making decisions.
Educate Yourself on Behavioral Psychology
I recommend educating yourself about how the brain and feelings work. This will give you insights into why you feel the way you do and how to handle it. You can find a lot of free resources online about basic behavioral psychology. This investment in self-education will pay off significantly as you become adept at managing your own mental state.
Implement Small Changes First
Start with small changes to build confidence. Take one task that makes you nervous and push yourself to complete it. Celebrate the victory, no matter how small. This will begin to reshape how you perceive your thoughts and grow your confidence in taking action.
Practice Self-Awareness
Practicing self-awareness is highly impactful. Spend a few minutes each day reflecting on your thoughts and feelings. Write them down and evaluate their validity. Over time, this practice will help you separate useful thoughts from unhelpful ones.
Lead by Example
Once you start to manage your own thoughts and feelings better, you’ll find yourself more confident and better at leading others. This process can be especially useful if you’re an entrepreneur or manage a team.
By implementing these low-cost, high-value strategies, you'll create a strong foundation for personal growth and improve how you handle both personal and professional challenges.
