What I Learned From My Husband

Summary

  • In the beginning stages of collaboration, my partner and I relied heavily on each other because we complemented one another's skills.
  • Over time, we've become more balanced, each learning from the other's strengths.
  • I've been observing my partner's approach to leadership, particularly his ability to give clear instructions.
  • While I notice he can sometimes be intimidating, the clarity he provides is effective.
  • I'm working to incorporate this clarity into my own leadership style, but without the intimidation.
  • It's important to maintain an authentic approach that aligns with one's own personality.
  • I aim to guide the direction of the business with clear and direct communication without being perceived as punitive.

How To Take Action

I would suggest implementing the following steps for any small business owner or entrepreneur looking to improve collaboration and leadership:

First, acknowledge the unique skills each person brings to the table. Understanding and appreciating these differences can help create a solid foundation for working together. When starting, rely on each other to fill in gaps and complement your strengths.

As you grow, aim for balance. Learn from your partners or colleagues. For example, if they are strong in clear communication, observe how they do it. Then, practice improving your own communication skills.

It's important to give clear instructions to your team. Clarity helps everyone understand what to do and increases efficiency. But remember, doing it in a kind, non-intimidating way is key. You don't want your team to feel threatened.

Stay true to yourself. You can be clear and direct without changing who you are. Your authenticity will make your leadership more effective.

To guide your business in the right direction, work on how you speak to people. Aim to be clear, direct, and encouraging. This helps create a positive work environment where everyone knows what's expected without feeling punished.

Remember, it's okay to work on your weaknesses, but always keep your own personality in the mix. This will ensure that your growth as a leader feels natural and genuine to you and your team.
