What’s My 5 Year Plan?

Summary

  • You have to persist, even when facing the unknown.
  • Often, you won't know what to do next, but take steps anyways.
  • Trust that with each step, you'll learn a bit more and improve.
  • As you progress, you'll be able to see the next step ahead.
  • This approach hasn't changed throughout my entrepreneurial journey.
  • I don't focus on strict five-year plans because the future holds many possibilities I can't foresee.

How To Take Action

I would suggest implementing the strategy of persistent action, even when you face the unknown.

Start Small and Keep Moving:

  1. Take Small Steps: Break down your big goals into smaller, manageable tasks. Don’t worry if you don’t have the full blueprint. Just get started. Each completed task will teach you something and provide you the courage to take the next step.

  2. Daily Action: Commit to doing at least one small productive thing every day related to your business or personal growth. This could be reading a book chapter, making a network call, or brainstorming new ideas.

  3. Reflect and Adjust: After each step, take a moment to reflect. What did you learn? What worked, and what didn’t? Adjust your strategy based on this new knowledge. Keep what works and discard what doesn't.

Trust the Process:

  1. Embrace Uncertainty: Accept that you won’t always know the next step. Trust that action will reveal the way. Each step forward, even if it’s small, builds momentum.

  2. Stay Flexible: Don’t get bogged down with rigid plans. Be adaptable. Understand that your goals and methods might change as you progress. Stay open to new possibilities and opportunities.

Focus on Continuous Improvement:

  1. Learn Continuously: Invest some time in learning new skills or gathering knowledge relevant to your goals. This doesn’t have to be time-consuming. Even short, consistent learning sessions add up over time.

  2. Seek Feedback: Don’t work in a vacuum. Ask for feedback from others—customers, colleagues, mentors. Use this input to fine-tune your actions and plans.

Persisting through uncertainty and taking consistent action, no matter how small, is key. Keep pushing forward and trust that the path will become clearer with each step.
