When Should You Quit?

Summary

  • I assess quitting based on whether new information has emerged that changes my initial assumptions.
  • If the reasons for my commitment remain unchanged, I perceive it as a "push situation," meaning I'll keep going.
  • When new data presents itself and alters the reason behind my efforts, or if my approach is flawed, that's when I consider quitting.
  • However, quitting is essentially pivoting, and it's crucial to differentiate between the two.
  • Pivoting, as opposed to completely stopping, involves making adjustments and continuing to push forward.
  • The key is persistence because, through continuous effort and pivoting, you'll eventually find something that works.
  • Once you find a successful strategy or outcome, the focus should be on doing more of that.

How To Take Action

I would suggest looking at your goals and asking if anything has changed since you started. Ask yourself, has any new information come up that makes you think differently? If nothing's changed, then you've gotta keep pushing. You made a plan, stick with it.

Now, if new stuff has come up that changes things, it's not quitting—it's pivoting. To pivot means you change your plan a little but keep going. So, you might need to try a new way to do your business or change how you're growing yourself. But you don't stop. You keep trying new ways until you find one that works.

A good way of doing this is being super persistent. If you keep trying, even when it's tough, you'll find what works for you. And when you do find it, do it a lot. That's how you'll see real success.

So, remember, quitting isn't the same as stopping. Quitting can mean changing to a better plan. And, always be ready to change and adapt. That's how you'll grow and get even better at what you do. Keep pushing, and when you hit that sweet spot, keep at it!

what's your framework for quitting things and moving onto something new for me I won't quit if no new information has come to light if I say I'm going to do this based on these assumptions if those assumptions have still held then it's a push situation if there's new data that's come to light that changes the nature of why I'm pushing or the way that I'm pushing is incorrect then I would quote quit but everything is a pivot except for stopping and if you continue to Pivot and you continue to push you will stumble upon something that does work in which case do more of it
