Why I Always Move The Goal Post

Summary

  • I've achieved my million-dollar and $100 million-dollar goals. Now, I'm aiming for a billion.
  • Reaching a billion dollars is symbolic for me. It's more about who I become in the process than the money itself.
  • Hitting big goals is not about changing my lifestyle; it's about personal growth and learning.
  • Documenting my journey helps in understanding the steps I need to meet my future self who can achieve this goal.

How To Take Action

I would suggest implementing personal growth goals with symbolism over financial expectations. Think about who you want to become instead of just what you want to achieve. Start by setting a significant goal for yourself—one that feels bigger than you—but focus on the growth process rather than the outcome of the goal itself.

A good way of doing this is to document your journey. Capture your thoughts, challenges, and successes. This could be through journaling, blogging, or video diaries. This reflection helps you understand the steps necessary to become capable of reaching your goals. It’s a low-cost strategy that enriches your journey and personal development.

Another helpful strategy is to assess your daily routines and habits. Analyze if they align with the person you want to become. Small, daily changes can build up over time. Make sure your actions match the values and goals that define your future self.

Consider connecting with mentors or role models who have achieved what you are aiming for. Learn from their experiences, seek their guidance, and adapt their strategies to your own context. This offers high value with relatively low time investment.

Lastly, remember that hitting big goals doesn't mean lifestyle change. It’s about evolving personally and gaining insights along the way. Keep your focus on continuous learning and self-improvement, as these are the real rewards of pursuing ambitious goals.
