Work Makes Me Happy

Summary

  • When I was younger, I was making about $20,000 to $30,000 a month.
  • I optimized everything in my work so I didn't have to go in.
  • My mentors encouraged this approach, and I followed their direction.
  • I found that optimizing to avoid work made me incredibly depressed.
  • I believe in positive and negative reinforcement to make things simpler.
  • I get good stuff from working in business, which is why I keep doing it.
  • People judged me for working too hard, but I felt sad when I didn't work hard.
  • I love working hard, and losing that made me unhappy; it's not about inherent sadness.

How To Take Action

I would suggest implementing a few key strategies from my experience that are both low-cost and high-value. These can significantly impact your personal growth, small business, or entrepreneurial journey.

First, optimize your work structure but maintain involvement. Like when I optimized my workflow to avoid going into work and felt depressed, I learned that completely removing myself wasn't fulfilling. You don't have to work less to work smarter. Instead, streamline tasks that drain your energy and focus on parts that give you joy and motivation. This way, you'll still be involved and feel productive without burnout.

Second, balance positive and negative reinforcement. Recognize what tasks and achievements make you feel good and which ones don't. Positive reinforcement drives you forward. Reward yourself for small wins to build momentum. Break down larger tasks into smaller chunks to reduce stress and prevent negative feelings.

Third, ignore judgments about your work ethic. People may say you're working too hard, but what's important is how you feel about your work. If working hard makes you happy, keep doing it. Your productivity and passion are personal. Everyone has a different threshold for work and leisure balance.

Lastly, focus on what you love in your business or personal growth plan. Identify aspects of your work or life that you genuinely enjoy and double down on those. Whether it's a specific business task or a hobby, making time for what you love increases overall happiness and productivity.

By following these simple yet powerful strategies, you can optimize your efforts without losing the joy or motivation that fuels personal and professional growth.
