How To Take Action
I would suggest implementing a plan where you first identify the specific changes impacting your business or personal growth. Look at what tasks will be reduced or eliminated as a result. This reduction typically frees up about 10-20% of your employees' time.
Steps to Implement:
Assess Skills Needed: Determine what new skills are necessary due to these changes. Make a list of these skills and prioritize them based on their importance and how quickly they need to be acquired.
Identify Affected Team Members: Recognize which employees will have reduced workloads. This could be someone whose routine tasks are now less critical because of the change.
Develop New Skills: Ask these team members if they are willing to learn new skills. Make sure to clearly communicate how these new skills will benefit them and the company. Most people appreciate the chance to grow and enjoy the variety in their job.
Provide Capacity and Tools: Ensure that employees have the time and resources they need to learn these new skills. This could be access to online courses, workshops, or even mentoring within the company.
Monitor Progress: Keep track of how effectively employees are picking up new skills. Offer regular check-ins and support as needed. Celebrate their milestones to keep morale high.
Low-Cost and High-Value Strategies:
- Online Courses: Utilize free or low-cost online learning platforms like Coursera, edX, or even YouTube tutorials.
- In-house Training: Organize skill-sharing sessions where one team member teaches others something they excel at.
- Mentorship: Pair newer employees with more experienced ones for hands-on learning without additional cost.
By following these steps, you can create a more adaptable and skilled team, ultimately making your business or personal growth journey smoother and more resilient.
