You Need to Just Fail

Summary

  • I've come to understand that we only really learn when we fail; it's a necessary part of growth, even if it's uncomfortable.
  • Experiencing failure can be dreadful and embarrassing, especially when it feels like others are watching your every move.
  • Despite the discomfort, it's far better to have tried and failed than to never have taken a chance at all.
  • The act of stepping into the arena, regardless of the outcome, sets you apart from many who never dare to try.

How To Take Action

I would suggest embracing failure as a step towards growth. Remember that failing means you're trying something challenging, and that's a brave thing to do. When you fail, it might feel really bad and sort of like everyone is watching. But think of it this way: it's better to try and mess up than never to try at all.

Here's how to handle failure and keep moving forward:

  • When something doesn't work out, be kind to yourself. Know that even the most successful people have failed too.
  • Share what happened with someone you trust. Talking about it can make you feel better.
  • Take a little time to think about what you learned from the experience. What can you do differently next time?
  • Get back out there and try again. Use what you learned to improve.

So, what to do right now? Pick a goal that you're nervous about because you might fail. Make a step-by-step plan to reach that goal. This makes it less scary. Then, dive in! Even if things don't go the way you want, it's okay. Learn from it and you'll be even stronger for your next challenge. Remember that stepping into the arena sets you apart from many who never dare to try.
